Rep netball action

Top rep netball action will feature on the courts at the EA Networks Centre in Ashburton tomorrow (Saturday 3 September).

Following the cancellation of the South Island Senior Netball Championships which were due to be held in Timaru this weekend, Mid Canterbury Netball decided to try and run a last minute tournament to replace it, and give teams that had entered an opportunity to still get more games in.

Four teams have taken up the opportunity, so tomorrow those four teams will play a round robin tournament to finish off the 2022 netball season.

Mid Canterbury, South Canterbury, North Otago and Selwyn will be in action, with Mid Canterbury’s day set to begin against North Otago at 10.30am, while South Canterbury play Selwyn.

Then, at 1pm, Mid Canterbury will take on South Canterbury while Selwyn play North Otago.

The day will finish off with a round at 3.30pm, where Mid Canterbury will play Selwyn, and North Otago play South Canterbury.

The Mid Canterbury team, coached by Cindy Meadows, has already played both South Canterbury and North Otago this season at the Hanan Shield tournament in August. Mid Canterbury won both of those games to win the Hanan Shield, so those results will give them confidence heading into this final weekend, but Selwyn will be an unknown quantity to finish the day off.

Mid Canterbury is also providing five umpires this weekend – Kevin Opele, Lydia Wilson, Heath Lyttle, Renee McLeod and Jan Lee - and MCN wish to say a big thank you to them for giving up their time to officiate.

Spectators are welcome to come along and check out the rep netball action.
